Whitehouse Slams President Donald “Stop Work” Trump’s Second Attempt to Wreck Nearly Complete Revolution Wind

Providence, RI - U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, the top Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, today slammed the Trump Administration's second attempt at stopping construction of the Revolution Wind Project, which is nearly complete and contracted to start delivering much-needed affordable electricity to Rhode Islanders next year.

"It's hard to see the difference between these new alleged radar-related national security concerns and the radar-related national security allegations the Trump administration lost in court, a position so weak that they declined to appeal their defeat. Revolution Wind was long ago thoroughly vetted and fully permitted by the federal government, and that review included any potential national security questions. This looks more like the kind of vindictive harassment we have come to expect from the Trump administration than anything legitimate. This is President Donald 'Stop Work' Trump trying to keep affordable, clean energy off the grid, without a care about how many working people have to lose their jobs to keep his fossil fuel billionaires happy," said Whitehouse.

Wind power is one of the fastest, cheapest ways to meet rising electricity demand, but as payback to Trump's fossil fuel backers, the Trump Administration is seeking to weaponize federal bureaucracy to try and kill clean energy projects that will save Americans money and reduce the carbon pollution that is driving the climate crisis.

This is President Trump's second attempt this year to stop Revolution Wind. His previous effort, which was challenged by the states of Rhode Island and Connecticut as well as Revolution Wind project developer Orsted, was overturned in court.

Today's order also applies to four other offshore wind projects: Vineyard Wind 1, Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, Sunrise Wind, and Empire Wind 1.
