FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sacramento - The League of California Cities Past Presidents Council today announced Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry as the recipient of the 2025 Past Presidents' Lifetime Achievement Award.
"I am deeply honored to accept this Lifetime Achievement Award. This recognition is especially meaningful because my journey started at the local level," said Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry. "From my time as a planning commissioner, city councilmember, and eventually the first female mayor of my hometown of Winters, I learned the power of local government to deliver real change that helps our communities. It shaped my values and continues to motivate me in my work in the assembly. Thank you for this incredible honor. I share it with every local leader committed to building a better California - from Winters to every corner of our great state."
Aguiar-Curry's decades of service span her time as a planning commissioner, council member, and the first woman mayor of Winters, to nearly 10 years of legislative leadership in the California State Assembly. As chair of the Assembly Local Government Committee, she became a trusted ally of cities, leading efforts to remove barriers to funding critical local services.
"Assembly Member Aguiar-Curry embodies what it means to never forget your local government roots," said League of California Cities Executive Director and CEO Carolyn Coleman. "In the Legislature, Cecilia has been an unwavering champion for cities. Her dedication and service will have a lasting impact on California cities and their residents for generations to come."
Beyond her legislative achievements, Aguiar-Curry has focused on issues that improve quality of life for Californians - from expanding broadband access in rural areas, to advancing childcare and protections for survivors of domestic violence, to championing diversity and equity as chair of the Legislative Women's Caucus. A lifelong Yolo County resident, she continues to run her family's walnut orchard while dedicating her career to strengthening communities throughout the state.
The Cal Cities Past Presidents' Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 1996 and is given annually.
Established in 1898, the League of California Cities is a nonprofit statewide association that advocates for cities with the state and federal governments and provides education and training services to elected and appointed city officials. Cal Cities' mission is to expand and protect local control for cities through education and advocacy to enhance the quality of life for all Californians.
