DelDOT Celebrates Start of US113 at SR18/SR404 Grade-Separated Intersection Project
Georgetown - The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) was joined today, September 15, 2026, by federal, state, and local officials and project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of the US113 and SR18/SR 404 Grade-Separated Intersection Project, marking the start of construction on another transportation infrastructure investment that will improve safety, mobility, and traffic flow in Georgetown and throughout Sussex County.
The project will replace the existing signalized intersection with a grade-separated interchange, improving traffic flow while reducing the potential for serious crashes by separating local and through traffic.
"The Department is eager to begin work on this project," shared Secretary of Transportation Shanté Hastings. "The current intersection is operating at a failing level of service and has one of the highest numbers of reported crashes in the area. By utilizing a grade-separated design, we can make the intersection safer, reduce congestion, accommodate growth, and preserve mobility for residents and businesses in the area," continued Hastings.
The US113 at SR18/SR404 grade separation will include bridging over US113 with loop ramps in the northeast and southwest quadrants and the addition of over two miles of sidewalks and paths. Other improvements include the creation of a third lane on US113 for the project limits, the construction of transit facilities, new ramps, and a bridge, and upgraded drainage, lighting, and roadway infrastructure.
The expected construction cost for this project is approximately $45 million. Work began in August of 2026 with an anticipated completion by the end of Summer 2028.
