New policy on Recording in Classrooms is effective as of Sept. 23

September 23, 2025

An interim policy on Recording in Classroomshas been approved and is effective as of Tuesday, Sept. 23. Below are the highlights of the policy:

  • The use of technology to record audio-visual content in classrooms is prohibited without the express permission of the instructor.
  • Students with approved Title IX support measures and disability accommodations may do so, provided they follow the guidelines and agreements required by the Disability Access Center and Office of Civil Rights.
  • Instructors who choose to record the audio-visual content of classes or portions of a class shall inform students either through the course syllabus, email, or verbally prior to recording.
  • Instructors may deem it necessary to request that all recording be temporarily stopped.
