September 29, 2025, Peoria, IL - Peoria County State's Attorney Jodi M. Hoos announces that Aggravated Battery charges have been filed against six individuals who were arrested over the weekend after interfering with police officers as they attempted to save the life of a gunshot wound victim.
On September 28, 2025, around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Main Street in downtown Peoria. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. As officers began rendering aid, multiple individuals surrounded them and interfered with their efforts.
Despite repeated commands for the crowd to back away, those orders were ignored. Officers were forced to physically push people back in order to assist the victim. Members of the crowd continued to ignore commands and surrounded officers, obstructing their efforts.
Six individuals were arrested at the scene, and each has now been charged with aggravated battery. Those charged are Jazzie Alston, Barry Anderson, Trennell Carter, Wesley Collins, Larenshia Harris-Moore, and Ariann Jackson. All six will be back in court tomorrow for their detention hearing.
Additional charges have also been filed against Anderson and Collins.
This investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
