For immediate release: September 3, 2026

BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Director of Weights and Measures Paul Floyd has been elected Chair-Elect of the National Council on Weights and Measures (NCWM), a national organization dedicated to promoting uniformity in weights and measures standards, laws and practices across the United States.

Floyd was elected by NCWM membership during the organization's 111th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He will serve on the NCWM Board of Directors and is scheduled to become NCWM Chair at the conclusion of the organization's 112th Annual Meeting in July 2027.

"I am proud to congratulate Paul Floyd on his election as Chair-Elect of the National Council on Weights and Measures," said Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. "This is a significant professional accomplishment and a recognition of Paul's leadership, experience and commitment to the weights and measures profession. His service in this national leadership role will not only benefit NCWM but will also provide an important opportunity to represent Louisiana and contribute to the development of sound, uniform standards that promote fairness in commerce."

As Chair-Elect, Floyd will serve on the NCWM Board of Directors and as chairman of the organization's Finance Committee. His responsibilities will include serving as acting NCWM Chair when necessary, developing a budget for review by the Board of Directors and reviewing the organization's committees, subcommittees, task forces and study groups.

Floyd will also serve as a member of the NCWM National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) Committee. This role will provide him with an in-depth understanding of the NTEP structure and the committee's responsibilities before he assumes the role of NTEP Committee Chair two years later.

A graduate of Louisiana State University, Floyd brings extensive regulatory and leadership experience to NCWM. As Director of LDAF's Weights and Measures Division, he oversees programs that help ensure accuracy and fairness in commercial transactions involving weighing and measuring devices and products sold by weight, measure or count.

The NCWM is a professional nonprofit association composed of state and local weights and measures officials, federal agencies, industry representatives and other stakeholders. The organization has developed national weights and measures standards since 1905 and works to promote equity and uniformity in commerce while keeping standards current with technological and marketplace advancements.
