City of Galveston Announces Road Closures for Galveston Island Shrimp Festival

The City of Galveston is preparing for the 16th Annual Galveston Island Shrimp Festival, returning this Friday, September 26 through Saturday, September 27, in the heart of the historic downtown district.

The two-day festival is one of Galveston's fall traditions, featuring an array of shrimp dishes, live music, and family-friendly activities. Highlights include the Shrimp Gumbo Cook-off, Gumbo Tasting, and the Shrimp Scamper 5K Walk/Run. There will also be live music by Coleton Black, Dustin Perkins and The Brandon McDermott Band.

The main festival takes place in the 23rd and Strand area, running along Strand between 22nd and 24th Streets and on 23rd Street from Harborside to Mechanic. The Shrimp Scamper 5K will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 9:00 a.m. along the Seawall (south sidewalk only) from 28th to 48th Street, with no impact on traffic or paid parking along the Seawall.

Temporary Lane & Road Closures

  • Strand (North Parking Lane) from 23rd to 24th Street - No parking beginning Friday, September 26 at 6:00 a.m. until Saturday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m.
  • 23rd Street from Harborside to Mechanic (including east and west parking lanes) - No parking beginning Saturday, September 27 at 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  • Strand from 22nd to 24th Street (including north and south parking lanes) - No parking beginning Saturday, September 27 at 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
  • 5K Seawall Route (28th to 48th Street, south sidewalk only) - Confined to sidewalk use on Saturday, September 27 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. with no road or lane closures.
