The Family Place at Concord Hospital has earned national TeamBirth Recognition, becoming one of only 45 healthcare facilities in the United States to receive the distinction. The recognition celebrates the hospital's successful implementation of TeamBirth and its ongoing commitment to improving communication, teamwork and dignity throughout the childbirth experience.
TeamBirth Recognition, administered by Unravel Healthcare, honors hospitals that demonstrate a sustained commitment to ensuring patients and families are active participants in decisions about their care. To earn the distinction, facilities undergo a rigorous review process that includes documentation of TeamBirth activities and their impact, observations of team huddles and evidence of ongoing engagement and improvement.
"This recognition is a tremendous achievement for The Family Place and a true testament to the leadership, dedication and commitment to high-quality patient care demonstrated by this exceptional team," said Concord Hospital Health System (CHHS) Chief Nursing Officer Seanna Zimmerman, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE. "Congratulations to everyone who helped bring TeamBirth to Concord Hospital and continues to make it an important part of the care we provide."
Concord Hospital implemented TeamBirth in 2026 as part of a statewide initiative to strengthen communication and shared decision-making during labor and delivery. Through structured team huddles and a shared planning board, everyone involved in a patient's care has the opportunity to discuss preferences, review progress, understand care options and make informed decisions together.
"At The Family Place, we believe every patient deserves to feel informed, empowered and supported throughout their birth experience," said CHHS Director of Women's and Children's Value Stream Melissa Devine, MSN, RN, CNL. "TeamBirth has given us a consistent way to bring patients, their families and our clinical teams together for meaningful conversations about care. Earning this recognition reflects the commitment of our nurses, physicians and staff to ensuring patients feel confident and respected in the decisions being made."
TeamBirth has been implemented in more than 300 hospitals across 26 states and five countries. TeamBirth Recognition distinguishes facilities that have not only adopted the model but have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to sustaining its practices and improving the birth experience. Recognized facilities must renew their status every three years.
"TeamBirth isn't simply a new process we've introduced. It's a reflection of how we believe maternity care should be delivered," Devine added. "This recognition celebrates the work our team has already accomplished while reinforcing our commitment to continually improving the experience for every family who places their trust in us."
