Revitalized Westacre Park Reflects Continued Investment in Safe, Welcoming Neighborhood Spaces

The grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded Westacre Park is the latest example of the City of West Sacramento's continued investment in safe, welcoming public spaces that strengthen neighborhoods and improve quality of life for residents of all ages.

Together, the improvements create a park that supports the full rhythm of neighborhood life, from active recreation and youth play to outdoor wellness, family gatherings, and everyday opportunities for residents to spend time together. Located at 1755 Evergreen Avenue, the revitalized 5.2-acre park features a wide range of new amenities designed to promote recreation, health, and community connection. The project was funded through a $7.843 million Proposition 68 Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program Grant from California State Parks, and additional investment support from Sutter Health and the Rotary Club of West Sacramento.

"State Parks is proud to help revitalize not just Westacre Park but also the West Sacramento community, highlighting the transformative power of investing in public spaces," said State Parks Director Armando Quintero. "This project fully aligns with the Newsom administration's Outdoors for All initiative and is a perfect example of how State Parks has expanded recreational opportunities in thousands of communities and local parks across California through our Office of Grants and Local Services."

"Westacre Park is a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when we invest in our communities. I was happy to help secure the $7.8 million Prop 68 Park Revitalization grant so our West Sacramento families now have a beautiful place to gather, play, and make memories together. Parks bring neighbors closer and give our kids and communities room to grow healthy and strong. I'm so proud to celebrate this exciting new chapter for West Sacramento," said Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters).

The renovation transforms Westacre Park into one of the city's premier recreation destinations, featuring a modern all-wheel skate park and pump track, inclusive playground, splash pad, climbing wall, pickleball and basketball courts, multi-use sports field, walking paths, shaded gathering areas, and the Sutter Health Tranquility Trail-a wellness labyrinth and reflexology path that promotes movement, mindfulness and quiet reflection-and ADA accessibility improvements.

"This project reflects our commitment to enhancing the parks and public spaces that bring our community together," said Mayor Martha Guerrero. "We are especially grateful to our community partners whose collaboration helped transform this long-standing neighborhood park into a sought-after destination for fun, wellness, and connection."

The project also represents a strong collaboration with education partners. Through a partnership with the Washington Unified School District, the City expanded the park onto adjacent property, allowing for additional recreational amenities and increased public access.

"Westacre Park was thoughtfully reimagined to create a welcoming destination where people of all ages and abilities can play and explore," said Kate Smith, Director of Parks & Recreation. "It reflects a blend of honoring the site's history as part of the Washington Unified School District while embracing innovation through a return to nature and new, creative forms of play."

Through funding provided by Sutter Health's community health investments, the Rotary Club of West Sacramento helped bring the Sutter Health Tranquility Trail to life, adding a distinctive wellness feature to the park and furthering the community's shared investment in healthy, connected neighborhoods.

"At Sutter Health, we know some of the biggest influences on health happen where people live, learn, work and play," said Michael Cureton, Sutter Davis Hospital CEO. " By creating spaces that encourage movement, connection and well-being, we're fostering healthier communities for generations to come."

The community is invited to attend Party in the Park on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where the neighbors and visitors can enjoy food, collect souvenir stickers and water bottles. Sacramento Area Bake Association (SABA) will also be offering complimentary bike valet.
