Fiber Optic Infrastructure Installation Along I-80 in Contra Costa Solano And Alameda Counties

Full Closure of Multiple Eastbound and Westbound I-80 on and off Ramps continues Sunday through Thursday, Nightly, between 9 PM -5 AM through May 2026

Contra Costa County - Caltrans is announcing ongoing closures related to the Fiber Optic Infrastructure Project along eastbound and westbound I-80, I-980, and I-580 in Contra Costa, Solano, and Alameda Counties. This construction work, which involves installing new fiber-optic infrastructure, will take place during overnight hours between 9 PM and 5 AM to minimize traffic impacts.

Caltrans will implement nightly ramp closures on both eastbound and westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) between McDonald Avenue and the Carquinez Bridge throughout May 2026, with additional nightly closures to follow near the Carquinez Bridge, the I-980/I-580 interchange, and the connector between I-580 and I-80 for the duration of the project.

For the upcoming week (May 3-7, 2026), the following full ramp closures will be in effect between Barrett Avenue and Pinole Valley Road:

Scheduled Ramp Closures - Week of May 3-7, 2026

Sunday, May 3 → Tuesday, May 5

  • EB I-80 San Pablo Dam Road On-Ramp 10 PM - 5 AM

Monday, May 4 → Wednesday, May 6

  • WB I-80 Richmond Parkway Loop On-Ramp 9 PM - 5 AM

Tuesday, May 5 → Thursday, May 7

  • WB I-80 Hilltop Drive Loop On-Ramp 9 PM - 5 AM
  • WB I-80 Hilltop Drive Off-Ramp 9 PM - 5 AM

Please be advised that during these closures, Caltrans may also implement multiple lane closures within the work limits between Barrett Avenue and the Carquinez Bridge for the safety of both construction crews and the motoring public. This project is tentatively scheduled for completion by Winter 2028.
