UPDATE: Victim Killed in Downtown Portland Shooting Identified

The man who died following a shooting in Downtown Portland Tuesday night has been identified as Malachi Bussey, 25, of Portland.

His family has been notified of his death and is requesting privacy at this time, however they provided this photograph for public release. The medical examiner confirmed his identity and determined that he died of homicide by gunshot.

The second victim, also an adult male, is being treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening. No arrests have been made.

The preliminary investigation suggests the shooting happened outside of Tom McCall Waterfront Park after the conclusion of the festival that took place there over the weekend. It is still unconfirmed whether the people involved in the shooting were attending or associated with the event.

This is an open and active homicide investigation. Detectives believe there are witnesses and others with information about this case who have not yet talked to police. There may also be evidence of what happened, which may include video or photos, of what happened before, during, and after the shooting. It is critical that investigators have this information to ensure that they have a complete picture of the facts of this case. One Deceased, One Injured After a Shooting in Downtown Portland

One male is deceased and another was injured in a shooting in Downtown Portland.

On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 10:36 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to reports of shots fired near Southwest Naito Parkway and Southwest Harvey Milk Street. When officers arrived, they found two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers on the scene performed life saving measures until paramedics arrived. One victim was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, and the other victim was pronounced deceased.

The suspect or suspects left the scene, and no immediate arrests were made.

The Portland Police Detective Division Homicide Unit is responding to the scene to investigate the case.

During the investigation, Southwest Naito Parkway is closed between Southwest Oak Street and Southwest Harvey Milk Street and Southwest Oak Street is closed between Southwest Naito Parkway and Southwest 2nd Avenue.
