Wyden Unveils Report on Devastating Impacts of Trumpcare in Oregon

Oregon Moms, Children, Rural Communities, People With Disabilities, Working Families Feel the Strain of Republicans Largest Health Care Cuts in History

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Ron Wyden today released a report detailing the destructive impacts of Donald Trump and Republicans' health care cuts that are already occurring in Oregon.

On July 4, 2025, Trump and Republicans in Congress enacted the largest health care cuts in history by slashing more than $1 trillion nationwide in Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. Already, Oregon hospitals and clinics are closing, Oregonians are being laid off and losing insurance coverage, and the state is facing impossible budget constraints.

"These needless and thoughtless health cuts by Trump and Republicans send a clear message to already struggling Oregonians and exhausted providers - we just don't care," Wyden said. "While Republicans dodge, deny, and lie about these unconscionable cuts, I am working day and night with my Democratic colleagues to not only protect but also expand lifeline care for communities across Oregon."

Several Oregon urgent care clinics have closed their doors, increasing pressure on emergency departments and limiting care options like same-day, walk-in appointments. Long-term care hospital closures have eliminated 310 jobs and specialized care for patients with complex medical needs, forcing them to seek long-term hospitalized care farther from home.

As the full impacts of the devastating Republican cuts are felt by patients and providers, the closures and jobs losses will only get worse.
