Sudan: Italy calls for an immediate end to hostilities

The fall of El Fasher, in North Darfur, to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 26 October, following an 18-month siege, marks a dramatic deterioration in Sudan's already devastating civil war, with potentially catastrophic humanitarian consequences.

Italy expresses its grave concern at reports emerging from El Fasher of widespread atrocities, summary executions, and deliberate acts of violence against civilians committed by the RSF.

Italy urges all parties to the conflict to bring an immediate end to hostilities in Darfur and across Sudan, and to uphold international humanitarian law and human rights obligations. Civilians must be protected, and humanitarian agencies must be guaranteed safe and unhindered access to affected areas.

Italy has never abandoned the Sudanese people and continues to provide assistance to civilians following the outbreak of the civil war, both within Sudan and in neighbouring countries.
