The City of Yuma Parks and Recreation Department will begin replacing the splash pad at Friendship Park on Monday, May 4, as part of an effort to update the aging water play area and support long-term use of the park.
The existing splash pad has reached the end of its useful life. Concrete elements are beginning to fail, the surface shows significant wear, and drainage performance has declined. While repairs have been made over time, they have not fully resolved the underlying issues, making full replacement the most practical long-term solution.
Construction is expected to take approximately two months, with the goal of having the new splash pad operational by mid-July.
The updated splash pad is designed to provide a refreshing and interactive play experience for families while maintaining a simple, open layout. Features will include vertical spray jets, arching streams, and interactive ground-level water elements spaced throughout the area. Accessible features are also included to help ensure children of all abilities can enjoy the space. Color-changing accent lighting will be integrated into the spray features, enhancing the experience during evening hours.
The splash pad area will be closed during construction. The City appreciates the community's patience as improvements are made to enhance the long-term functionality and enjoyment of Friendship Park.
