CORPORATE COUNCIL ON AFRICA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF MAURITIUS POSTPONE 2026U.S.-AFRICA BUSINESS SUMMIT
Decision Made to Protect Health and Safety of Delegates, Heads of State, and Business Leaders
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) and the Government of Mauritius today announced the postponement of the 2026 U.S.-Africa Business Summit, which had been scheduled for July 26-29, 2026, in Mauritius. The decision was made jointly and with great care, in direct response to guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Mauritius Ministry of Health regarding the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Central Africa.
The WHO declared the Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on May 17, 2026, citing rising cases, cross-border spread, and significant uncertainties about the scale of the epidemic.
With more than 2,500 participants expected to participate in the Summit -including African Heads of State and government ministers, senior officials of the U.S. Government, and business leaders from across Africa and the United States - CCA and the Government of Mauritius concluded that convening a gathering of this scale at this time would not be responsible. Mauritius, as an island nation with particular vulnerabilities to imported infectious disease, shares the WHO's concern about the risks associated with large international gatherings during an active PHEIC.
"The safety and well-being of every delegate, leader, and participant is our highest priority," said CCA President Florie Liser."This was not an easy decision - the Summit was shaping up to be among the most consequential in its history, with extraordinary participation from African Heads of State and senior U.S. government officials as well as U.S. and African business leaders. But it was the right decision. We look forward to bringing this extraordinary community together as soon as it is safe to doso."
"Mauritius remains fully committed to its partnership with CCA and to the mission of deepening U.S.-Africa economic ties," said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius, Dhananjay Ramful. "We are proud to remain a co-host of this Summit and will work closely with CCA to identify the right moment to welcome Summit participants to our shores."
This is a postponement, not a cancellation. CCA and the Government of Mauritius are actively working to identify a new date and will make an announcement as soon as possible. All registered participants, sponsors, and partners will be contacted directly with further information. CCA encourages all stakeholders to hold their commitments and looks forward to delivering the high-level program and outcomes the Summit has been designed to produce.
