North Parkers Perform at Chicago Jazz Festival

Several North Parkers, including students, alumni, and faculty, are performing this weekend at the Chicago Jazz Festival at Millennium Park. The festival is a Labor Day weekend tradition that celebrates jazz through free programming showcasing local and international talent.

There is a rigorous audition process for performers, and the program is carefully curated, making it a significant accomplishment for so many North Parkers to have been selected. Those individuals include students Victoria Flores, Stephanie Garcia, Andrea Hernandez, Yash Pawar, and Talha Waqar; Music Lecturer Alexander "Alex" Beltran and instructor Darren Scorza; and Michele Thomas NPU '97, a Distinguished Young Alumni Awardee and founder of the North Park University Gospel Choir, and Sid Smith IV BA '20. Chicago is historically known for jazz, and the Chicago Jazz Fest is one of the world's oldest and largest jazz festivals. People come from all over the globe to attend and perform. The biggest names in jazz have performed at the festival, including Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dizzy Gillespie.
