Dr. Nancy Brickhouse Named TSUS Vice Chancellor for Academic and Health Affairs

(AUSTIN) - Texas State University System Chancellor Brian McCall has appointed Nancy Brickhouse, Ph.D., as vice chancellor for academic and health affairs, overseeing academic planning and program review, research, and health affairs across the system's four universities and three state colleges.

Dr. Brickhouse brings nearly 40 years of higher education experience to TSUS, most recently serving as vice president and provost at Baylor University. In this role, she oversaw the university's 12 colleges and schools, research enterprise, libraries, museums, centers, and institutes. During her seven years at Baylor, Brickhouse led the growth of graduate programs and elevated the university's research and scholarship profile, enabling the institution to achieve Carnegie 1 Research status. Prior to that, she served as provost at Saint Louis University and in a variety of professorial and leadership roles during her 27 years at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Brickhouse is a nationally recognized researcher in science education. Since earning a Ph.D. from Purdue University, her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and Spencer Foundation. She has published extensively on science education and served as editor-in-chief of Science Education.

Dr. Brickhouse begins her new role at TSUS on September 15. She succeeds Dr. John Hayek, who was appointed president of Lamar State College Port Arthur earlier this year.
