Siena University has received recognition from two independent sources that measure the reputation and financial health of the nation's colleges and universities.
Money gave Siena 4.5 stars out of five (the second highest ranking) in its 2026 Best Colleges in America ratings, while Open School rated Siena in its top category as "Healthy," finding it one of most financially resilient universities in New York state.
The Money rating places Siena among the top 10 percent of colleges and universities nationwide. Money analyzes the country's top 735 four-year colleges based on 25 measures including educational quality, graduation rates, affordability, financial aid, potential alumni salaries and economic mobility, to help prospective students and their families find their best fit college. "Money's annual rankings acknowledge reputation, but more importantly they recognize institutions that provide students with an outstanding return on their educational investment," said Siena President Chuck Seifert, Ph.D. "A strong outcome-driven ranking is a validation of Siena's commitment to delivering an exceptional, high-value education that prepares graduates for lifelong personal and professional success without saddling them with unmanageable debt."
Siena also performed exceptionally well in a new independent national assessment of higher education fiscal health. In the first-ever Open School financial health ranking, Siena ranked first in New York's Capital Region, 16th statewide, and in the top 15 percent nationally. Their methodology can be found here.
Open School, developed by Johns Hopkins University lecturer and entrepreneur Dan Ye (founder of CollegeNode), uses publicly available data and AI-assisted analysis to evaluate institutional financial strength through objective measures including enrollment trends, endowment resources, admission patterns, and return on investment.
Regionally, The Albany Business Review recently recognized Siena University as one of the fastest-growing organizations across the 11-county Capital Region. Based on three-year revenue growth, the rankings feature 12 companies in each of three categories: small (under $25M in revenue), medium ($25M to $100M), and large ($100M+). Siena ranked 8th in the large company category with revenue growth above 20 percent, and was the only higher education institution featured on any of the lists.
"Fiscal health safeguards our core mission by allowing us to invest in exceptional academic programs, modernize our facilities, and offer student scholarships," Seifert said. "By operating from a position of fiscal strength, it ensures that every dollar serves Siena students directly, giving them the resources, peace of mind, and support they need to thrive."
