Statement by President Connolly on the death of Paul Clancy

Date: Wed 24 Jun, 2026 | 19:06

"As President of Ireland, may I join with all of those who have expressed such sadness on learning of the death of Paul Clancy.

Paul will be remembered as a fantastic GAA player, winning two All-Ireland senior football championships and five Connacht titles with Galway, as well as being a driving force behind the Maigh Cuilinn club, playing as they won the 2008 All-Ireland Intermediate title and then serving as chairperson as the club won their first ever Galway senior football championship in 2020.

May I express my deepest sympathies to Paul's wife Johanna, his children Ellen and Finn, his mother Mary, and to all of his extended family, friends, teammates and supporters throughout Maigh Cuilinn, Galway and beyond."
