Funding for Local Events and Free Grants Workshop

Funding for Local Events and Free Grants Workshop

Published on 15 October 2026

Parkes Shire Council is encouraging local community groups and event organisers to apply for funding through Round 2 of its Events Financial Assistance Program (EFAP), with applications open from 19 October to 19 November 2026 for events taking place between January and July 2027.

To help applicants get started, Council's Grants Team will host a free Grants Workshop on Wednesday, 28 October, providing practical guidance on preparing grant applications and making the most of available funding opportunities.

The Events Financial Assistance Program supports new and existing events that bring people together, strengthen community connections, build local pride and promote the Parkes Shire as a great place to live, work and visit.

Funding may include financial assistance and in-kind support, such as access to Council facilities and equipment, helping event organisers deliver successful and sustainable events across the Shire.

Round 1 supported a diverse range of community events, including the Central West Car Club's Show 'n Shine, Parkes Action Club's Christmas Carnival, Parkes Homegrown, Trundle Bush Tucker Day, Christmas Carols in Cooke Park organised by the Parkes Ministers Association, and Remembrance Day services organised by the Parkes RSL Sub-Branch.

Parkes Shire Mayor Neil Westcott encouraged community groups to explore the program and take the next step towards bringing their event ideas to life.

"Local events are an important part of what makes our Shire such a vibrant and connected community. They bring people together, celebrate our local identity and create opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy everything our towns and villages have to offer," Mayor Westcott said.

"I encourage community groups and event organisers to explore this funding opportunity. Whether you're planning an established annual event or developing something new, Council's Grants Team can help you understand the process and give your application the best possible start.

"If you're unsure where to begin, come along to the free grants workshop. It's a great opportunity to ask questions, build your confidence and find out how Council may be able to support your event."

The Events Financial Assistance Program comprises two funding streams: the Community Events Fund and the Destination Events Fund. Applications for the Community Events Fund open twice a year, in May and October, while the Destination Events Fund accepts applications year-round.

Successful applicants will be notified before the end of 2026, allowing event organisers time to plan and prepare for their events in the new year.
