As the holiday season kicks off, we have several ways to give back to our community.
Community Toy Drive
League City is partnering with Interfaith Caring Ministries to host a Community Toy Drive from now through December 4. Collection boxes are located at the Helen Hall Library, Hometown Heroes Park, City Hall, and the Civic Center for citizens to drop off new and unwrapped toys for children between the ages of 0-12.
Interfaith Caring Ministries is a local non-profit based in League City that serves struggling families in our community and across Galveston County. Every year, they create a "toy store" the first weekend of December so their clients can have the experience of "shopping" for presents for their children.
Help spread the word to your church, civic clubs, and community groups. The toys will be collected and distributed to Interfaith on December 5, so they have enough time to set up their "toy store" that weekend.
League City Animal Care
Our animal shelter is always in need of items, including food, crates, leashes, treats, and toys to help our shelter pets thrive. On average, they house about 150 animals each day. This amount of care requires a community-wide effort, especially because our animal care facility is the only municipal no-kill shelter in Galveston County. Help League City Animal Care remain an outstanding shelter by gifting them with needed items this holiday season.
View their Wish List and purchase items for the shelter or drop off new and gently used pet supplies, food, etc. at their Pet Pantry located at the shelter.
Blue Santa with the League City Police Department
The League City Police Department Blue Santa program's "Shop With a Cop/Firefighter" occurs the second week of every December. Blue Santa is collecting cash or check donations (payable to League City Community Outreach) and Target gift cards, which all go towards this special day.
This event allows about 100 children from around 30 families to shop with a cop/firefighter at Target. LCPD, along with the League City Fire Department, and the LCPD Volunteers in Policing program partner to provide these families with a Christmas they may not have otherwise had.
