Weekend Traffic Alert: Agua Fria St. & South Meadows Rd. Closure March 14–15

The intersection of South Meadows Road and Agua Fria Street will be temporarily closed on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15. Heavy machinery will be in place to drill deep holes into the ground to support the new mast arms that will hold the new traffic signals.

The intersection will be closed from 7:00 a.m. Saturday until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The large drilling machine will take up all the space in the roadway, so travelers are advised to follow detour signs and plan ahead if their travels take them near this intersection.

During construction, the intersection will be closed in all four directions for these two days. Please review the detour map to plan your trip.

Detour Routes

Northbound and Eastbound Traffic

Airport Road → Rufina Street → Jemez Road

Southbound Traffic

Alameda Frontage Road → Caja Del Oro Grant Road → Agua Fria Street

Westbound Traffic

Jemez Road → Rufina Street → Airport Road → San Felipe Road

On Monday, March 16, there will also be lane closures that may cause slight delays. These lane closures will allow for additional concrete work and will be in place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

City officials recognize that detours can be inconvenient and thank the community for its patience throughout the project. The work represents the final step in a major infrastructure upgrade designed to improve safety and traffic operations at one of the city's key intersections.

Additional updates will be shared as the project nears completion.
