Manutan Group renews its FRET21 partnership to cut CO₂ emissions by 10% within three years

The Manutan Group, a leading European B2B e-commerce player specialising in the distribution of equipment and supplies to businesses and local authorities, has renewed its commitment to FRET21 to further reduce CO₂ emissions linked to its transport activities across the France Outbound scope. Three years after first joining the scheme and exceeding its initial target of a 7% reduction - achieving a 12.6% decrease - the Group is once again taking action, with the ambition to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from transport by 10%, equivalent to 278 tonnes of CO₂, by 2027.

A strong first outcome with nearly 13% fewer CO₂ emissions in three years

Since joining the FRET21 programme in March 2022, the Manutan Group has built a solid and measurable pathway to reduce its transport-related emissions, fully aligned with its CSR commitments.

The initiative, designed to encourage companies acting as shippers to better integrate transport impacts into their sustainable development strategy, relies on a rigorous methodology and detailed framework to curb CO₂ emissions.
Through a three-year action plan, the Group not only met but exceeded its initial 7% reduction target, achieving a 12.6% decrease.

This success is the result of three years of continuous optimisation, which have strengthened maturity across the entire transport chain. By selecting committed logistics partners, optimising load rates, reducing delivery distances, and choosing more sustainable transport modes, the Group has demonstrated its ability to combine efficient logistics with environmental responsibility. This approach has also been shared by three other French subsidiaries already involved - Manutan Collectivités, Pichon, and Casal Sport - creating a common foundation within the Group.

A 2025-2027 roadmap to amplify impact

The new three-year plan builds on the progress made in France, with the following priorities for the next phase:

  • A 10% reduction in emissions between 2025 and 2027
  • Supporting transport partners in converting their fleets to adopt lower-emission fuels
  • Strengthening CSR criteria in the carrier selection process across the Group
  • Continuing logistics innovation, aiming for 100% of vehicles to run on renewable energy
  • Reducing delivery distances through route optimisation or revised logistics flows

"The FRET21 initiative has been a real catalyst in structuring our approach to reducing transport-related emissions. It has helped us set a clear direction, prioritise our actions, and measure, year after year, the impact of our efforts. The results from the first phase confirm the relevance and reliability of this methodology, which provides a robust framework to guide our actions and ensure steady progress.
We have also begun to gradually roll out this approach at the European level through pilot schemes, engaging several Group subsidiaries. In a spirit of continuous improvement, we are also working to enhance the quality of our data for even more reliable reporting and better-informed operational decisions. This renewed commitment further strengthens and validates our responsible positioning with our customers and partners," explains Gabriel Tellier, Transport Director at Manutan Group.

As part of its environmental strategy, the Manutan Group continues to step up its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality for its direct and energy-related indirect emissions by 2035 (Scopes 1 and 2), and across its entire value chain by 2050 (Scope 3).

Among its key projects, a partnership was established in early 2024 with Mazet, the transport company now handling deliveries from the Gonesse (Val d'Oise) site using a fleet 86% powered by B100 biofuel. This momentum is driven by two complementary levers: Manutan has already converted 50% of its collections to green energy, while Mazet - responsible for 20% of the Group's national parcel network - is accelerating the conversion of its fleet to B100 biofuel, with the goal of reaching full conversion in the coming years. This partnership will play a decisive role in contract renewals thanks to shared environmental objectives.

In this ongoing effort, the Group also aims to apply for the FRET21 label by 2026. Awarded by ADEME and validated by representatives from the French Ministry for Ecological Transition, this label recognises companies that are leading the way in reducing CO₂ emissions from freight transport.
