On 8 May, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the Auckland regional finals of the 2026 "Culture China · Water Cube Cup" Chinese Song Competition. Approximately 300 people, including New Zealand Member of Parliament Nancy Lu, President of the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand-China Friendship Association , Leeann Wahanui-Peters and representatives of overseas Chinese communities, and relatives and friends of the contestants, watched the competition.
In his speech, Consul General Chen stated that this competition, themed "Voice Resonates Globally, Music Unites Us " aims to foster friendship and connections through song, conveying the spirit of China-New Zealand friendship. He hoped that the organizers and various overseas Chinese communities would innovate artistic forms to encourage more New Zealand friends to learn Chinese, sing Chinese songs, experience the beauty of Chinese culture, enhance understanding through exchange, deepen friendship through resonance, and continuously promote people-to-people connectivity between China and New Zealand. The Consulate-General will work hand in hand with all sectors to build bridges for cultural exchange and inject inexhaustible momentum into the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand.
This competition was organized by the New Zealand Huaxing Arts Troupe. A total of 27 contestants entered the finals, and gold, silver and bronze awards were given out in four categories: children, teenagers, youth and adults.
