Signs are there for a reason

During National Work Zone Awareness Week, the Kansas Department of Transportation and its safety partners are sharing personal stories each day to illustrate why safety is critical in work zones.

Thursday safety blog: Signs are there for a reason

Signs in construction zones exist to help protect the traveling public as well as those working on the road, according to Heather Jennings, Construction Manager for KDOT in Syracuse.

Workers and equipment are always moving in the work zone, and pilot car operations exist to guide travelers through them. In her safety blog this week, Jennings writes about an instance when three vehicles entered an active construction zone without waiting for the pilot car as directed by signs.

"We work to get the job done safely and efficiently," Jennings said. "Please follow the signs and show respect to the people out there in the work zones."

Jenning's full work zone safety blog is at kansastransportation.blogspot.com and can be published provided you credit Heather Jennings/KDOT.
