Washington, D.C. - Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) released the following statement after Donald Trump refused to sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. Instead of working to lower the cost of housing, Trump is prioritizing taking away voting rights.
"After the House and Senate both passed this critical bipartisan legislation focused on lowering housing costs for working families, Donald Trump is still playing political games instead of taking action on the affordability crisis. By refusing to sign this bill unless Congress passes the harmful SAVE Act, Trump is putting politics ahead of working families.
Nothing Donald Trump says adds up. While families are struggling with the cost of housing, health care, and groceries, Trump is focused on creating new obstacles to voting. The SAVE Act would make it harder for millions of eligible Americans to vote by creating unnecessary barriers.
The ROAD to Housing Act could help lower costs for working families, but Trump dismissed it as 'minor importance' and canceled the signing.
For families struggling to pay rent, first-time homebuyers trying to break into the market, and Americans watching housing costs rise higher and higher, there is nothing minor about housing affordability."
