OC Streetcar testing to take place overnight June 25-26 from Raitt Street to Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center

The OC Streetcar project has reached a major milestone, as streetcar vehicles will begin testing activities using power from the newly-energized overhead wires system. This marks a significant step forward in preparing the system for future service.

The first scheduled test will take place from 9 p.m. Thursday, June 25 to 3 a.m. on Friday, June 26 along the OC Streetcar route between Raitt Street and the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd.

The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

During testing, please stay alert and obey all traffic laws.

Visit ocstreetcar.com for important resources, construction updates and more.

Read on for additional safety tips:

Stay safe around overhead wires

  • These wires are energized and should always be treated as live
  • Keep yourself and objects like drones, balloons, ladders, antennas, or kites away from the electrical wire
  • Do not enter OC streetcar utility cabinets due to the dangers of electricity
  • Always assume a downed power line is energized and dangerous. Stay at least 100 feet away, warn others from a safe location and call 911 immediately to report the hazard

Watch for streetcar testing

OC Streetcar will be testing along the route. Testing may involve more than one vehicle. Streetcars may travel at traffic speeds. Bells may sound and lights may flash during testing.

  • Streetcars travel on the road with other vehicles
  • Streetcars are quiet and only use warning bells when necessary
  • There will not be a fence that separates you and the streetcar
  • Streetcars cannot move off track to avoid obstacles and cannot make abrupt stops in traffic
