Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children's experts are presenting advances in research and leading hands-on patient care workshops at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting, April 24-27 in Boston.
The physician-scientists are available for interviews to discuss new research on improving care in neonatal intensive care units, quality improvement efforts and simulation training for neonatal transport and emergency newborn care.
"As Guerin Children's continues to evolve as a premier destination for specialty pediatric care in Los Angeles, PAS 2026 is an important opportunity for our pediatricians to share scientific and clinical advances in lifesaving newborn medicine," said Ophir Klein, MD, PhD , executive vice dean of Children's Health and executive director of Guerin Children's.
Simulation Workshops
Rangasamy Ramanathan, MD, MBBS, director of Neonatology at Guerin Children's, and Mahmood Ebrahimi, MD, a registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer and clinical instructor in Pediatrics, will co-lead a hands-on simulation workshop on targeted neonatal echocardiography. The training focuses on using echocardiography to assess how patent ductus arteriosus, a congenital heart defect, affects blood flow in preterm infants. The workshop is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 10:30 a.m. to noon.
A second simulation workshop, co-led by Ebrahimi, will train clinicians in the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for real-world neonatal emergencies and critical care scenarios. This session is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 6:30-8 p.m.
Guerin Children's Experts Presenting Research at the Meeting
Manoj Biniwale, MD, director of NICU Clinical Research, Division of Neonatology at Guerin Children's, will present research across multiple sessions on several topics, including clinical trial data evaluating different approaches to umbilical cord management in premature infants and a simulation training session to improve how healthcare providers learn and retain critical newborn resuscitation skills.
Kurlen Payton, MD, assistant director of Quality and Safety at Guerin Children's, will present research on a multicenter quality improvement initiative that increased maternal breast milk use at discharge for very low birth weight infants, improving outcomes and health equity.
Kyle Willsey, DO, pediatric intensivist at Guerin Children's, and Lauren Collins, RN, will present how simulation training and neonatal transport impact workload and outcomes among pediatric transport teams.
