“Keep humanity in AI”: Edge Hill’s first female engineering graduate delivers inspiring speech

A standout student from Singapore, Isha has spent the last four years pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Beyond her academic success, she has been a driving force for inclusivity at Edge Hill, contributing to the Departmental Equality and Diversity Committee and serving on the Student Advisory Panel.

Her time at Edge Hill was defined by a commitment to going beyond the classroom.

Supported by the University's Student Opportunity Fund and Thrive Fund, Isha attended prestigious events ranging from the UK Space Conference to the European Chatbot & Conversational AI Summit and secured second place at the national Unibots 2025 competition.

"The opportunities at Edge Hill have been the best part of my experience," Isha said.

"The University encouraged me to explore my interests, challenge myself through practical projects and take part in experiences that have shaped my future career. I've grown not just as an engineer, but as a confident individual."

During her graduation ceremony, Isha was invited to deliver an inspiring address to her fellow graduates. Reflecting on their shared journey, she spoke about the importance of authenticity and perseverance:

"When many of us first arrived at university, we had no idea what these years would hold. Somewhere between lectures, new experiences and moments that challenged us to grow, we changed. I want everyone here today to truly recognise the amount of hard work and perseverance it took to reach this point."

Addressing the pressures of the modern world, she encouraged her peers to define success on their own terms:

"The world will always have opinions about who you should become. But if you spend your life trying to meet everyone else's expectations, eventually you stop building a life that genuinely belongs to you. So whatever path you take after today, I hope it is one that feels authentic to who you are."

Isha concluded her speech with a powerful call to action for the Class of 2026:

"As we move into this next chapter of our lives, I hope we use what we have learned not only to build successful careers but to make meaningful contributions to the world around us. Stay ambitious enough to leave the world better than you found it but grounded enough to keep learning. I cannot wait to see the mark we leave on the world."
