State Route 20 and Stafford Way Safety Improvement Project
New Traffic Signal and Intersection Upgrades Aimed at Reducing Collisions

YUBA CITY -Caltrans is alerting motorists of a safety improvement project beginning construction on April 4 at State Route 20 (SR 20) and Stafford Way.

Work will begin with electrical activities, which are expected to take approximately one week to complete. This work will occur during daytime hours on the westbound side of SR 20. Lane #3 will be closed from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. between Cooper Avenue and Rocca Way. Access to all driveways, including businesses, will be maintained.

The project limits extend along SR 20 from Clark Avenue to Gray Avenue and will reduce collisions and improve safety for traveling motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. The estimated project cost is $4.7 million.

The project will install a new traffic signal, intersection lighting, updated curb ramps, and new pavement markings and delineation at the intersection. These improvements are intended to enhance visibility, regulate traffic flow, and improve safety and accessibility for all roadway users.

According to safety data, the intersection experienced 33 collisions within a three-year period, including 28 injury collisions, which is higher than the statewide average for similar intersections.

During construction, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures, reduced speeds in work zones, and minor delays. Most work will occur at night to minimize traffic impacts. Lane closures for the project are prohibited during the day and restricted between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, and between 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Caltrans will provide advance notice of traffic impacts and work schedules as construction progresses.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
