River Museum to host annual Party for the Planet on April 25

DUBUQUE, IOWA - The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium will host its annual Party for the Planet celebration, sponsored by TH Media, on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event, held in recognition of Earth Day, will highlight this year's theme, "Conserve, Create and Connect with Your Community," encouraging visitors to explore ways to support environmental stewardship through hands-on learning and local partnerships. Party for the Planet is part of a nationwide initiative led by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, representing the largest combined Earth Day, Endangered Species Day and World Oceans Day celebration in North America.

"This event is an opportunity to bring our community together around conservation and environmental stewardship," said Codi Sharkey, conservation programs manager at the River Museum. "By connecting guests with local organizations and hands-on experiences, we hope to inspire simple actions that can make a lasting impact on our environment."

Party for the Planet will feature interactive experiences for all ages, including a shark touch tank, hands-on conservation activities, and opportunities to connect with regional organizations working in sustainability, wildlife conservation, and environmental education. Visitors can also take home a free tree sapling, while supplies last, courtesy of Wagner Nursery.

Additional programming is expected to include a honeybee demonstration, a youth trout fly-casting demonstration, and Goats on the Go bringing their grazing crew to the Woodward Wetland thanks to a grant from Sustainable Dubuque.

Participating partners include Country View Honey, Dubuque Audubon Society, DubuqueLand Pheasants Forever, the University of Dubuque and Dubuque Colleges Sustainability Coalition, the Driftless Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Cox Spring Farms, Goats on the Go, Izaak Walton League, DMASWA, North American Native Fish Association, Genoa National Fish Hatchery, University of Wisconsin-Platteville Animal House, Green Iowa AmeriCorps and Sustainable Dubuque, Wanderwood Gardens, Dubuque Rendezvous, and Friends of Dubuque County Conservation.

Party for the Planet is included with general admission and is free for members. The event will take place rain or shine.
