Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to fires on Catharine Avenue and Main Street this morning.
Catharine Avenue fire
At 3:04 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant and boarded house in the 1500 block of Catharine Avenue.
At the scene, crews found flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters used a defensive attack until it was safe enough to enter the building. Firefighters declared the fire under control at 3:32 a.m.
No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.
Main Street fire
At 5:57 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building in the 100 block of Main Street.
At the scene, crews found heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire using a defensive strategy, including aerial ladders that sprayed water from above.
Firefighters arranged an emergency demolition of the building to ensure they can fully extinguish the fire. Demolition is expected to completed today.
This building was previously damaged by fire in August 2026 and October 2025.
No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.
