VIENNA, 5 November (UN Information Service) - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will mark the International Day against Transnational Organized Crime and the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) on 11 November with a high-level event, including a panel discussion. The high-level event will spotlight international efforts to confront the rapidly evolving threats of organized crime and to renew global cooperation under the Convention.
The event will be opened by UNODC Executive Director Ghada Waly, the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella and the Federal President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen.
Following the opening, UNODC will present findings from its forthcoming report on transnational organized crime, followed by a panel discussion showcasing the evolving role of UNTOC and highlighting contemporary challenges posed by transnational organized crime.
