Celebrating summer at Wirral’s Family Hubs: fun, learning, and community connections

This summer, Family Hubs across Wirral have been buzzing with activity, laughter, and learning as families came together to enjoy a wide range of events and sessions designed to support children and their families.

Throughout the summer, families had the chance to join in with exciting activities while connecting with local services like libraries, Family Toolbox, Involve North West, Koala North West, The Positivitree, SENDLO, Little Lambs, and many more. These events offered not just entertainment, but also valuable advice and support on everything from parenting to financial wellbeing.

One of the highlights was the Assistant Educational Psychologist sessions held across the Hubs, helping parents and carers with managing behaviour, easing children's worries, building positive relationships, and preparing for the return to school. Sessions from The Positivitree, Umbrella Stay and Play, Rainbows, and the Early Intervention Team were especially popular, supporting children and young people aged 0-25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Alongside these special events, the Hubs continued to run their regular timetable of activities, including chatter tots, baby massage, baby play, and stay-and-play sessions for under-5s. These groups offer a safe and friendly space for children to play and learn, while parents and carers can build connections and access support.

It's been heart warming to see so many families come together - learning new skills, making friends, and enjoying quality time with their little ones. The feedback from families has been fantastic:

Loved all the activities and can't believe it's all free!

We had an amazing time my two loved the activities and my son enjoyed collecting all the freebies!

But the support doesn't stop when summer ends.

Family Hubs are open all year round, offering a wide range of services for families with children aged 0-19 (or up to 25 for those with SEND). There's no need for a referral, just walk in and speak to the friendly staff.

Services available across the Family Hubs include:

  • Infant feeding support and advice
  • Parenting classes and family help
  • Health visiting and other health services
  • Midwifery appointments and antenatal classes
  • Debt and welfare advice
  • SEND support
  • Groups and activities for children and families
  • And much more!

With 10 main Family Hubs and 18 Satellite Hubs across Wirral, there's always one nearby, and you're welcome to visit any hub, not just the one closest to you.
