Burnsville, April 16 - Twenty students from Albert Lea High School's agronomy and plant science class toured Al-Corn Clean Fuel yesterday to learn more about ethanol production.
During the tour, the students learned of the various stages of ethanol production such as incoming grain grading and handling, fermentation, ethanol shipment, DDGS production and shipment. They were also briefed on Minnesota's ethanol industry.
The tour was organized by the Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association (MN Bio-Fuels). Al-Corn Clean Fuel is a member of MN Bio-Fuels.
"It was a pleasure to co-host students from Albert Lea High School with producer member, Al-Corn Clean Fuel. During the tour, these students gained firsthand insight into the ethanol production process, as well as how Minnesota's ethanol industry continues to innovate while lowering fuel costs, reducing greenhouse gases, strengthening rural economies, and increasing domestic energy independence," said Brian Werner, executive director at MN Bio-Fuels.
The students that participated in yesterday's tour were from grades 10 to 12. Krystal Viktora, agriculture teacher at Albert Lea High School, participated in the tour with her students yesterday.
"My students were able to meet industry professionals and gain real-life applications to in-class course materials," she said.
