WWU News
April 16, 2026
On Saturday, April 25 the annual award-winning LGBTQIA2S+ conference and convention WWU QueerCon is back for its 10 year anniversary! WWU and the local community are invited to join in celebrating an entire decade and counting of an event centering queer and intersectional creativity and representation in comics, arts, media, science, and culture.
This one-day event for all ages will be held in the Academic Instructional West building on Saturday, April 25. Doors open at noon.
The WWU QueerCon team is particularly excited to announce our keynote titled "A Queer History of Star Wars" presented by returning WWU alum, scientist, costumer, and our original founding director, Katherine Winchell.
We hope you'll find something for everyone: games, crafts, food, virtual planetarium show, cosplay and costuming workshops, and more. Attend presentations hosted by renowned queer authors, artists, and scholars. Browse tables lining the hallways of Academic West featuring independent artists, WWU student creators and clubs, and local small businesses and organizations showing their support for our community.
New for this year, we are excited for sweet treats at the Cascade Maid Cafe. And LOTR fans, rejoice! Queer Tolkien scholar Robin Anne Reid will also be presenting "An Asexual Autist's Feminist Musings on The Lord of the Rings."
Doors open for all-ages hours and vending at noon, and ends at 5:00 p.m.
Beginning at 5:00 pm, upper floors and vending close, and 18+ after-hours special events begin: a Rocky Horror-themed event, queer horror documentary and discussion, and a drag show hosted by WWU Royal Gambit Drag Club to close out the evening.
Discounted advance tickets are available online until Thursday, April 23. Tickets at the door are $5 for WWU students with ID, $10 general admission, 12 and under free with accompanying adult.
