On The One-Year Anniversary of His Election, Voters Across the Country Resoundingly Reject Donald Trump Arrow

Last night, voters in states across the country - including in the race for New Jersey and Virginia governor - issued a resounding referendum on Donald Trump and Republicans for selling out everyday Americans in order to rig the system for billionaires. Democrats swept races up and down the ballot by running candidates focused on addressing affordability and kitchen table issues. Democrats are entering the midterms with strong momentum.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"The results are in and the message is clear: Voters have had enough of Donald Trump and Republicans' agenda to sell out everyday Americans in order to rig the system for billionaires. After promising to lower costs on 'Day One,' Trump has taken a wrecking ball to the economy. His chaotic trade war has spiked inflation and hollowed out the job market. As he hands out massive tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy, everyone else is struck with higher prices on groceries, rent, and utilities, and his massive cuts to the health care and food assistance that working families rely on.

"Voters looked at Trump's White House and saw pay-to-play politics that benefit the ultrawealthy and well-connected while everyone else gets left behind. Argentina gets $40 billion while American farmers lose entire markets that may never be recovered. Crypto criminals get pardoned while Trump's family cashes in. Big donors and corporations donate millions to Trump's White House ballroom and walk away with giant tax cuts and sweetheart government contracts. Trump gets to play 'tariff man' while consumers foot the bill. And billionaires get tax cuts while tens of millions face skyrocketing health care costs or lose their coverage completely. Despite his promises to the American people one year ago, Trump has done nothing but put himself and his rich friends first - and America last.

"Americans know when they're getting screwed. That's why voters sent Republicans packing and elected Democrats who are fighting to lower costs and standing up for everyday Americans, not the ultrawealthy and well-connected."
