Last week, as Utah Governor Spencer Cox delivered his State of the State address, Democrats called him out for failing Utah working families. DNC Chair Martin reminded Utah voters that under Governor Cox, costs are rising, health care is more expensive, and rural hospitals are closing.
The bottom line: While Donald Trump and his Republican allies like Cox fail working families at every turn, Democrats are fighting every day to lower costs, protect health care, and build a brighter future for every Utahn.
Take a look at some of the coverage below:
Axios: Gov. Spencer Cox: "Utah will not become a state of renters"
[Kim Bojórquez, 1/22/26]
"Prior to his speech, Democratic National Committee chair Ken Martin slammed Cox's leadership.
"'Here's the reality: costs continue to rise, health care becomes more expensive, and rural hospitals close under Trump and Cox,' Martin said in a statement.
"'While Cox will try to gaslight Utahns and paper over his failures, it's clear that Utah's Republican leadership has failed working Utahns.'"
Cache Valley Daily: Democrats at state, national level queue up to criticize annual address by Gov. Spencer Cox
[Charlie Schill, 1/23/26]
"Ken Martin, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, issued his first attack before Cox's speech even began, citing the familiar DNC theme that Republicans are more concerned with the welfare of billionaires than that of average Utahns.
"'While Cox will try to gaslight Utahns and paper over his failures,' Martin said in a prepared statement, 'it's clear that Utah's Republican leadership has failed working Utahns.'
"Despite the high-minded rhetoric included in Cox's remarks, Martin argued that the reality is that costs continue to rise, health care becomes more expensive and rural hospitals close under President Donald Trump and Cox."

[Amelia Hobson, 1/22/26]
"'As Spencer Cox delivered his State of the State address, here's the reality: costs continue to rise, health care becomes more expensive, and rural hospitals close under Trump and Cox,' said Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin. 'While Cox tries to paper over his failures, it's clear that Utah's Republican leadership has failed working Utahns.'
"The Democratic Party noted that they agree with Governor Cox's concerns about social media and other issues, 'but warn[s] against Republican attacks on the judiciary, voter protections, and citizen initiatives.'"
