A York County woman pled guilty to tax evasion on Monday, May 18.
Leigh Flynt Kohn, 44, of York, pled guilty to charges of breach of trust of more than $10,000 and tax evasion related to money she stole from her employer. Kohn acknowledged at the hearing that she was legally required to report the stolen money on her 2023 and 2024 tax returns because it was "illicit income" for which she should have paid South Carolina Individual Income Tax.
Circuit Judge William McKinnon sentenced Kohn to seven years in prison for the breach of trust charge, followed by two years in prison for the tax evasion charge with that prison term suspended upon two years of probation.
McKinnon also ordered Kohn to pay the state more than $23,000 of unpaid Income Tax.
SCDOR agents arrested Kohn in September 2025 and charged her with two counts of tax evasion and one count of failing to file a state Individual Income Tax return. Kohn was accused of excluding at least $281,000 of income on her 2023 and 2024 Income Tax returns from the stolen money.
