Members of the City Council took their oaths of office on Monday night at Mesquite City Hall.
Daniel Alemán Jr. was sworn in for his third term as Mayor. In 2021, he was elected as Mesquite's first Latino mayor. He was reelected for the seat in 2023. Prior to his election as Mayor, Alemán represented Place 6 on the City Council since 2016.
Jeff Casper took the oath of office to represent District 1 on the City Council. He was originally elected to serve for that district in 2021 and was reelected in 2023. Prior to that, Casper served on the City Council from 2015-2019.
Also on Monday night, Kenny Green was sworn in for his fourth term to represent District 2. He was originally elected for the seat in 2019.
Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross was sworn in for her second term representing District 3. Rodriguez-Ross made history in 2023 when she was elected as the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Mesquite City Council.
B.W. Smith was sworn in for his fourth term representing District 5. He was first elected to the seat in 2019.
Brandon Murden was sworn in for his second term representing District 6. He also made history in 2023, when he was elected as the first African American to serve on the Mesquite City Council.
Councilmember Tandy Boroughs in Place 4 has termed out. A runoff election - between Andrew Hubacek and Nadine Ward is scheduled for December 13 to determine the seat. Boroughs will continue to represent District 4 until after the runoff election.
Mesquite City Councilmembers serve in the districts where they live, and are each elected for two-year terms. According to the city charter, no person may serve more than four consecutive two-year terms as a city councilmember without a two-year break in service.
