One Deceased on Eastbank Esplanade, Homicide Investigation Underway

One man is deceased on the Eastbank Esplanade near the Hawthorne Bridge following a possible shooting, and the Portland Police Homicide Unit is responding.

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 8:56 p.m., a Portland Police Officer assigned to Central Precinct was on patrol on Southeast Madison Street near the Eastbank Esplanade when she was flagged down by witnesses who reported hearing what sounded like gunshots. The officer summoned cover units and located an adult male deceased on the multi-use path.
The suspect or suspects left the scene and no immediate arrests were made.
Detectives with the Portland Police Homicide Unit are responding to the scene to investigate the case. During the investigation, the Eastbank Esplanade is closed in the area.
