Prime Minister Rumen Radev meets EU member states' ambassadors and European Commission Representation in Bulgaria

Prime Minister Rumen Radev met with the group of the EU members states' ambassadors and the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria. The meeting was hosted by the Ambassador of Ireland Catherine Bannon whose country assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the beginning of July.

The discussion touched on present issues on the EU agenda, including the Union's focus on problems related to competitiveness, security and infrastructure connectivity. Prime Minister Rumen Radev acknowledged the new significant role of the approved European Competitiveness Fund and noted the need to ensure that less developed member states have genuine access to the available resources. This ensures equal opportunity and "industrial cohesion". Alongside, special attention was given to the ongoing discussions on the adoption of the European Union's new Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). Prime Minister Rumen Radev supported the new focus while he emphasized that these matters should not be detrimental to fundamental EU policies such as the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In this context, the Prime Minister outlined the new dimensions of the Cohesion Policy that should increasingly extend into areas such as science, education and research and development.

Prime Minister Rumen Radev wished Ireland success in implementing the priorities set for its Presidency of the Council of the European Union until the end of this year.
