COOKEVILLE, TN- Enbridge has announced it has begun building its Ridgeline Expansion Project, despite the outpouring of opposition to the dangerous fossil fuel pipeline.
If constructed, the pipeline would span 122 miles across the Tennessee Valley and threaten hundreds of waterways in the region to deliver methane gas to the Kingston Gas Plant. Enbridge faced criminal chargesfor destroying waterways during its construction of another pipeline in Minnesota. In May, nearly 500 Tennessee community members submitted comments opposing the Ridgeline Expansion Project.
In response, Sierra Club Organizing Strategist Bonnie Swinford issued the following statement:
"Tennesseans deserve to have the beauty of our creeks, rivers, and other waterways protected. Projects like the Ridgeline Expansion threaten to bulldoze our landscapes, pollute our water, and endanger our communities' health, while lining the pockets of Big Oil and Gas executives. Tennessee deserves better and we will fight to protect our home state."
