Convicted Felon Arrested For July Shooting After Running From Detectives Thursday

A convicted felon who shot his girlfriend last month was arrested by TITANS Unit detectives on Thursday after he ran from them on Lewis Street and tossed a stolen gun. During an interview with detectives, Deangelo Derrick, 39, admitted to shooting his girlfriend in the leg on July 20th following an argument.

He also admitted that the handgun he threw during Thursday's chase was the same one he used to injure his girlfriend. The handgun was stolen from a June 2020 shootout scene in an alleyway on University Court.

Derrick was booked last night for his outstanding aggravated assault warrant as well as unrelated charges for the 2022 domestic assault and order of protection violation involving an ex-girlfriend. He is also being charged with evading arrest and being a felon in possession of a weapon. He remains jailed today on $30,000 bond.
