Supplier Showcase: Nuclearn talks equipment AI

The American Nuclear Society recently hosted a Supplier Showcase webinar, "From Alarm to Answer: How AI Can Reduce Equipment Load and Enhance Performance," in partnership with Nuclearn, a provider of AI tools built for the nuclear industry.

A brief overview: The webinar was led by three executives from Nuclearn: Brian Critchfield, vice president of marketing; Lorzeno Slay, vice president of product; and Phil Zeringue, chief revenue officer.

Critchfield, who moderated the discussion, started things off by giving the big-picture context on the gap Nuclearn is working to fill. "Most plants today have some form of anomaly detection," he explained, which watches equipment and tries to predict when something might fail. While these systems are valuable, they are also fundamentally limited. As Critchfield put it, when an alarm fires, the real work of figuring out the exact cause of that firing begins. "Very few plants have a solution for diagnosing that alarm without pulling engineers away from priorities for hours or days."

This gap was the focus of Nuclearn's discussion-an exploration of how its AI tools can compress that diagnostic work from days into minutes, along with a look at how AI fits into equipment monitoring. This discussion was complemented with a hands-on walkthrough of the company's new "Equipment AI" tool.

The Supplier Showcase opportunity: Companies in the nuclear space are welcome to collaborate with ANS on a Supplier Showcase webinar. Each hourlong presentation given as part of the ongoing series is an opportunity to inform the nuclear community about your company's technologies or services. The full catalog of Supplier Showcases is archived on the ANS Webinars page.
