Illinois 3 bridge reconstruction in Madison County begins Sept. 14

VENICE - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that lane closures on Illinois 3 between West 20th Street and Bissell Street in Madison County will begin, weather permitting, Monday, Sept. 14. One lane will remain open in each direction.

The closures are necessary to accommodate bridge reconstruction as part of the approximately $17.6 million project. The work is expected to be completed by mid-summer 2028.

The current traffic configuration is expected to remain in place as construction progresses.

Motorists should expect delays and plan accordingly. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Seven of Rebuild Illinois include $25.6 billion of improvements statewide to 24,498 lane miles of highway, 959 bridges and 1,475 additional safety improvements.
