Native Pop Culture Celebrated at SkasdiCon Vol. IV

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Celebrate Native influence on pop culture at the fourth annual SkasdiCon on Nov. 8 at the Chota Conference Center inside Cherokee Casino.

The family-friendly event is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to children 12 and younger, as well as any attendees dressed in cosplay costumes. General admission is $10 at the door and online at SkasdiCon.com.

"SkasdiCon is more than just an Indigenous comic-con; it is a place we can all come together to celebrate the ways in which Native and pop culture are intertwined," said Jessica Pratt, cultural tourism coordinator. "Every year, we look for ways to expand this event with more panels, games and artists, and hope the public will join us for another exciting year of SkasdiCon."

More than 60 Indigenous artists will share their work at SkasdiCon, alongside film screenings, Native pop culture panels and a cosplay competition. The cosplay competition features five divisions with $4,500 in awards.

Guests can also expect appearances from Gene Brave Rock, Ricardo Caté, Michael Paul and more.

Panels include discussions on how to make a 'zine with Johnnie Diacon, a special presentation from Choctaw artist Kristin Gentry on fashion, cosplay and storytelling through an Indigenous lens, and more.

Guests can enjoy an expanded gaming area hosted by Warguts Esports, along with exclusive opportunities to play "Superhero Stickball" and "Roll for Indian Taco," an interactive game where a roll of the dice determines the ingredients that build the ultimate Indian taco.

Cherokee Casino is located at 3307 Seven Clans Ave. in Tahlequah.
