Argall, Watro Announce $1.1 Million in Funding for Schuylkill, Luzerne County Communities

HARRISBURG - Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Dane Watro (R-116) announced more than $1.1 million in Local Share Account funds were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to several municipalities in Schuylkill and Luzerne counties today.

"Towns and neighborhoods in all corners of our region will benefit from this funding," Argall said.

"Regardless of the municipality, there is always a pressing need to maintain and upgrade local infrastructure and ensure that essential work vehicles are available," Watro said. "This funding, made possible through gaming revenues, is vital because it empowers our local governments to invest in critical improvements without placing additional financial burdens on taxpayers. I'm glad I could help ensure these dollars benefit 116th District communities."

In Schuylkill County, the following projects were awarded funding:

  • East Union Township - $250,000 to construct a new township building and public works garage.
  • Kline Township - $73,309 to purchase a 2025 Ford police interceptor vehicle.
  • Mahanoy Township - $94,000 to purchase a new mini-excavator and trailer.
  • McAdoo Borough - $49,978 to renovate the sidewalks at the McAdoo Fire Company.
  • Ringtown Borough - $271,000 to improve the borough's wastewater treatment plant.
  • Shenandoah Borough - $83,608 to purchase a track loader for site development, grounds maintenance, snow removal and trails and forest management.
  • North Union Township - $70,408 for improvements to the Twin County Joint Municipal Authority wastewater treatment and collection system that serves North Union and Black Creek townships.

Additionally, a $114,889 grant was approved for equipment purchased by Banks Township, Carbon County that will improve the operation and maintenance of the local wastewater treatment plant operated by the Kline-Banks-McAdoo Regional Authority.

In Luzerne County, Hazle Township was awarded $150,000 to construct a pole barn for equipment storage.

LSA funds are generated by the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for distributing gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects of public interest within Pennsylvania. Luzerne County will receive additional grants in a second round of funding through the LSA - Luzerne program.

The CFA administers Pennsylvania's economic stimulus packages and is an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
