Two Brockton Men Sentenced for Staged Credit Union Robbery

A former bank teller conspired with his brother to steal almost $200,000

BOSTON - Two Brockton men were sentenced today in federal court in Boston for the Sept. 24, 2024 robbery of Energy Credit Union in West Roxbury. The defendants stole $197,146 from the Credit Union where one brother was employed as a teller.

Jenel Flounoury, 30, and Justin Flounoury, 34, were each sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs to four months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Both were also ordered to pay joint restitution in the amount of $197,146. The defendants were arrested by state authorities on the night following the robbery and were indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2025. In July 2026, they each pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit larceny from a credit union.

Jenel and Justin Flounoury conspired to stage a robbery of Energy Credit Union, where Jenel was employed as a teller. On the day of the robbery, Justin arranged to leave work early from his job in South Boston and be driven to the credit union. Cellphone location records documented Justin's travel to the credit union and his presence during the robbery.

Upon arriving at the credit union, Justin concealed his identity by wearing a hat, dark clothing, sunglasses and a mask. Once inside, Justin approached the teller window where Jenel was working and handed his brother a note that read, "Hand it Over." Rather than providing Justin with the limited amount of cash in his teller drawer, Jenel entered the credit union's vault and collected nearly $200,000 in cash. Jenel then retrieved a bag from inside the vault, filled it with cash and handed it to Justin. Justin fled the credit union and returned to the residence he shared with Jenel, as corroborated by cellphone location records.

The brothers were later observed burning dark-colored clothing consistent with the clothing worn during the robbery in a grill at their residence. During a search of the residence, more than $160,000 in cash was recovered, including ten $100 bills with serial numbers matching those recorded by Energy Credit Union employees prior to the robbery.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley; Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble; and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox made the announcement today. Valuable assistance was provided by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Mark Grady and John Potapchuk of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
