Olszewski Supports Funding Bill Delivering At Least $8.2 Million for Second District Public Safety and Infrastructure Projects

(Washington, DC) - Maryland Congressman Johnny Olszewski today voted in support of a bipartisan $38.6 billion funding bill that includes at least $8.2 million in targeted investments for Maryland's Second District, supporting local law enforcement, crime prevention, and critical infrastructure improvements. The funding is part of an appropriations package covering the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment bills, which passed the House in a 397-28 vote and now advances to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

As an outspoken opponent of unilateral cuts and rescissions under the Trump Administration last year, Congressman Olszewski highlighted provisions that reassert Congress' power of the purse. The legislation, for example, incorporates funding tables that codify precise dollar figures for specific programs and mandates staffing levels at federal agencies.

"This legislation invests in critical projects that make our communities safer and stronger while also preventing the reckless abuses we have seen from the Trump Administration over the last year," Congressman Olszewski said. "These bills make strategic, common sense investments that strengthen public safety, modernize aging infrastructure, and support victims of crime - all while restoring Congress' rightful role in setting our nation's priorities. At a time when Americans are demanding that we work together, this bill proves that we can govern responsibly."

For Maryland's Second District, Congressman Olszewski requested and secured:

  • $800,000 to support trauma and crime victim services at Baltimore's Center of Hope;
  • $1.18 million to expand Baltimore City's Group Violence Reduction Strategy;
  • $965,000 to support Loyola University's forensics science program;
  • $3.7 million to upgrade the Baltimore City Police Department's computer-aided dispatch system;
  • $500,000 for sewer system improvements for the Town of New Windsor; and,
  • $1 million for Westminster's water purification system;

Nationally, the bill provides strategic investments in electric grid modernization, water infrastructure, energy efficiency initiatives, and environmental protection programs - all of which stand to benefit Maryland and the Second District.
